Designing Dallas with Lindsey Home Design

Deep in the heart of Texas ( clap clap ), designer Lindsey Walker, founder of Lindsey Home Design, is wowing clients with her signature country-meets-cosmopolitan style, and while she’s at it, earning an ever-growing community of social supporters.

With behind-the-scenes photos and endearingly authentic captions, Walker has surely found the recipe for success. What’s her secret to great interior style? Read on, as this Dallas designer shares a foolproof interior styling formula for pairing patterns, her (unexpected) favorite new color, and her approach to accessorizing

Kitchen Interior Styling

Walker knew Gabby’s King Counter Stools were a perfect choice for this bright kitchen––“We felt they had a voice of their own while letting the gorgeous tile still shine through

Interior Styling in the Heartland

The spirit of Texas fuels this designer’s creativity.

“I have an organic, slightly masculine design aesthetic,” says Lindsey Walker, “and lean toward warm, earthy tones and textures.” Her transitional style, which sits comfortably between modern and traditional, is the subject of much adoration in her Dallas community and across the social hemisphere. Focusing on timeless interior style, Walker chooses furniture staples––upholstered seating, dining tables––with classic styling, then adds textiles, lamps, and accessories in more daring shapes and colors.

Interior Styling for the home

Walker often uses diamond or diagonal shapes to help the eye “bounce” around her interiors.

Walker loves her hometown for its “strong sense of identity” and unapologetic independence, which often challenges her to step outside the box with unique design choices. “Dallas is such an energetic and eclectic city,” she says. Over the years, it’s this bold point of view that has helped develop her signature interior style.

Master the Art of Interior Styling with these 3 Tips:

  1. Make a Pattern. “I try to create a pattern with repeating colors, textures, or shapes, usually in a diamond or diagonal shape around the room. You want enough so that the eye “bounces around” a space, following each similar item to the next, but not so much that you feel overwhelmed or cluttered.”
  2. Couple Up. “Grouping things, particularly in odd numbers like three and five, also helps to create harmony instead of clutter…I tell my clients that the last 10% of completing a room is what makes the space!”
  3. Follow this Formula:Large pattern, small pattern, solid. This works well, especially when grouping pillows together. In today’s design world, you want patterns and colors that harmonize with each other, but that aren’t carbon copies. If I use a highly detailed, colorful rug, then I tend to choose more subtle, neutral pillows in coordinating fabrics, and vice versa.”

Gabby’s three-tiered, beaded Etienne Chandelier tops this charming dining space.

Lindsey’s Most-Loved List

Walker’s signature interior style begins with a calming palette and standout lighting.

“Color shouldn’t feel like an afterthought, but instead a purposeful element of your overall design,” Lindsey recently shared with her Instagram audience. For someone who considers color so carefully, we had to know: what are her go-to hues? Walker prefers soothing shades of blue, green, gray, brown and blush, always aiming to “create contrast” with interesting color combinations of light and dark, or cool and warm tones.

Interior Styling

Drawn to jewelry-like accessories, Walker chose Gabby’s brass and lucite Callisto Mirror for this glam dining room.

A shade she doesn’t play around with: black. But the tides are changing, as this sultry shade now tops her 2019 design wishlist––“I dream of black shiplap ceilings, trim work, and accent walls”. We can’t wait to see how she experiments with this high-impact color to create “masculine, moody, and polished” interiors.

Walkers’ interiors are rarely finished without statement lighting, a design decision she typically saves for the end of the selection process when most of the furniture has already been chosen. Approaching lighting as a “finishing accessory” when it comes to interior styling, the designer is drawn to oversized chandeliers and pendants that serve as the room’s jewelry. “It’s like the necklace to an outfit,” she explains.

A favorite piece is Gabby’s Adler Chandelier. Walker tells us, “I’ve used this piece in many of my clients’ homes. It’s such a contemporary spin on the classic lantern chandelier.”
