Let’s face it. When you think of storage, do you automatically think of the endless plastic storage displays that pop up in January as soon as the Christmas decorations go on markdown? While all these containers can be practical, Gabby believes that designing storage that’s both beautiful and useful is important in today’s homes. We looked to a few designers for their favorite pieces that are storage friendly and best of all, hide the clutter.
Interior designer and antiques dealer Shannon Eldredge loves the simplicity and style of the Rosalyn Chest. “With its marble top, the Roslyn chest can be used in a living room or family room as a bar. The drawers provide extra storage which is always welcome,” she says. “The soft color works in almost any environment.” She has a pair in her Pennsylvania farmhouse and has sold many in her shop.” — Shannon Eldredge, Chelsea House, Haverford, Pennsylvania
“The Alexis Chest is a favorite storage piece to use in a variety of settings. Whether in a bedroom, living room or dining area, the Alexis Chest’s unique design provides both beauty and function. I love that it has the appearance of a full chest of drawers, while still providing the flexibility of cabinet storage with adjustable shelves. The gold accents and hardware are also a favorite feature.” — Sita Montgomery, Montgomery Interiors, Salt Lake City, Utah
Interior designer Lori Pananjape used a pair of the Hazel Chests in her own master bedroom noting, “The finish and detail on the Hazel Chest is beautiful (those pulls!) but the large drawers make for such useful storage!” — Lori Pananjape, Mrs. Paranjape Design + Interiors, Brentwood, Tennessee
Gabby is also known for designing versatile chests. One particular favorite is the new Chancellor Chest that can do triple duty – great as a television console, useful as a chest in a bedroom or wonderful as a sideboard in a smaller dining room space. And the mix of stone and oak will work with just about any décor.
And if you are super organized, the Grace Farmhouse Style Cabinet is not only great for china or collectibles, but I would use it as a bookcase as well. The Francesca Coffee Table can house all your go-to books and magazines in a more modern organized way in four divided storage sections under the table.
Another can’t-live-without item is the Lloyd Bar Cart. Not only does it organize the obvious – cocktail glasses, bottles and ice buckets – but it also works as a bathroom organizer for your cosmetics
