Gabby Dreamhome: Organic Modern Picks from Design Loves Detail
Designing a layered interior with furniture, home decor, and lighting from Gabby. Over the years, Mollie has collected many of her “dream Gabby pieces” and continues to cherish them. See how Mollie incorporated these lovely pieces on her blog!
The Entryway
Mollie created a natural and organic look to welcome her guests into her home with the Gabby Terrance Chest. This chest shows off the natural wood and when Mollie’s husband weighed in, he fell in love with this statement-making chest with faux-bone inlay. Mollie finished the look with Gabby’s Ellington Table Lamp, juxtaposing the console’s “warm wood tones” with the table lamp’s blue-grey undertones. Mollie exclaims, “Another perfect pair in my book!”.
The Sitting Room
When flipping her was, office to her new sitting room, Mollie had one design style in mind, keep it fresh with hints of organic modern furniture sprinkled throughout. Mollie outfitted her office with the marble-and-oak Jonas Console ––”it feels like it was designed for me!”–– and the brass Fritz Mirror.
“This room just makes me so happy! I want to spend as much time as possible in here because I feel like it so completely captures my design aesthetic & feels like a breath of fresh air– the perfect way to start off the new year.” – Mollie
The Dining Room
Who doesn’t love a gorgeous dining room design? Mollies, dining room remodel is giving us all the feels with her styling our Watson Banquette and Kennedy Dining Chairs. Not only do they pair together so seamlessly, but they add the perfect modern, yet organic touch to her dining room.
Tips for Adding Organic Texture in the Home
Achieve Mollie’s signature style of organic modern design with natural tones, curated accents, and loads of texture.
Mollie is known for her picture-perfect “shelfies”––gorgeous surfaces styled throughout her living spaces, bedrooms, kitchen, and bathrooms. The secret is in the mix; Mollie creates visual harmony with vintage pieces and traditional “styling staples” like white ginger jars and monochromatic books.
The palette? Always neutral and natural. She sticks to her favorite shades of white, cream, dove grey, and tan––an elegant blend that “allows for an airy, yet sophisticated feel.” Mollie makes sure her interiors feel edited, modern, and crisp by following a “less is more” design mantra, using fewer pieces to ensure that every vignette feels intentional.
The Interior Equation for Organic Modern Design
While interior design is more of an art form than a science, we’ve broken down elements of Mollie’s never-fail organic modern styling tips into one simple equation.
(+) Add Texture. As the queen of organic modern interiors, Mollie has become a mix-master when it comes to layering materials. Her go-to textures include woven rattan, ceramic pottery, French linen, cloth-bound books, and glass or clay beads.
(+) Add Color. A hint of hue in an otherwise neutral space will look lovely. Mollie often adds subtle shades of blue-grey into her interiors, using everything from a wool throw blanket to a KitchenAid mixer to highlight each room with a splash of color.
(x) Multiply Storage. Mollie believes there’s no shame in ample storage space, especially for a family home! Floor-to-ceiling cabinets in her mudroom and home office help the household stay organized.
(-) Subtract Clutter. Every home needs a functional storage space. Preferring the look of open shelves and clean surfaces, Mollie uses woven baskets, ceramic jars, textured boxes, and wooden bowls to conceal clutter.
(=) Sum Style Points. Looking good, gorgeous! You scored 100% in our book.
Social Stardom: Building a Business with Social Media
How Mollie built her brand organically through social networking and digital media.
Hashtag for Home
When Mollie began to design her current home, she had a very specific vision in mind. In fact, it was so specific that none of the existing design genres captured her aesthetic––”So I made my own genre!”, she laughs. Coining the hashtag #EuropeanOrganicModern, Mollie began to create a new style sub-genre, blending diverse design elements that felt authentic to her family and lifestyle.
The hashtag stuck and began to resonate with a wider audience. Mollie’s advice for homeowners wanting the European organic modern look: “Stick to what makes you feel ‘home’ rather than what’s ‘trendy’ and you can live in a space that’s a true reflection of yourself…that’s a pretty cool thing.”
Creative Content
On the Design Loves Detail blog, Mollie covers everything from spring pillow pairings to interior reveals, generally publishing one or two new articles per week. How does she keep up with creating fresh content? The truth is, there’s no strict schedule––“I’m actually a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl!”. But with the help of her “very organized” husband and helpful assistant, Mollie feels supported when it comes to maintaining a routine.
Mollie admits that she is constantly driven (and distracted) by her own creativity, but the many facets of business and family life have taught her to “juggle” tasks and embrace more structure in her daily routine.
