The sofa is one of the most important functional features in your room and it’s also one of the biggest design decisions you can make. It’s the place where we lounge, snuggle up with our loved ones, watch TV, and share conversations. These days, most every room in the house has one: playrooms, dens, living rooms, and even bedrooms and dining areas.

With more than 30 styles to choose from in Gabby’s Tailored Collection and customization galore, Gabby answers the call for every sofa in the house and every style you are looking for. Sectional? Check! Settee? Check! Chesterfield? Check! You get the picture. The challenge is which one or ones to choose. The answer depends on your personal style and how (and where) you want to use it.

Choose Your Style (and Customize it!).

Whether you lean traditional, contemporary, eclectic, or somewhere in between, Gabby’s transitional styling makes it easy to find a look you’ll love. Here are a few favorites to get you started.

transitional custom sofa

Carter Sofa: Available in a three-cushion or bench seat, with or without nailheads, the Carter Sofa exhibits straight arms and a higher back. Similar to a tuxedo sofa, this transitional version would be equally at home in a traditional or mid century modern setting.

Nova Sofa

For a true tuxedo style (with arms equal to the height of the back) look to the Nova and Thatcher. The Nova offers a cleaner line with its two-cushion back and side bolters while the Thatcher cues more of a traditional chesterfield with its tufted back.

Abbey Sofa

Who can resist the English look of a chesterfield sofa? The Abbey Sofa, Everly Sofa, and Graham Sofa all exhibit the classic tufting while variations on feet, cushions, and shape offer individuality. “We take a lot of our inspiration from antiques or other furniture pieces. For example, we may find an arm design from an antique and modify it on one of our top selling frames,” says Gabby upholstery designer Hillary Park.

Everly Sofa

Graham Sofa

Dahlia Settee: Looking for something with a bit more formality? With its English arm, tight back, and turned leg with Victorian casters, the Dahlia Settee is just as lovely in a living room as it is pulled up to a dining table or in a bedroom alcove. The Dahlia is available with or without nailhead trim.

European Inspired Helena Settee

Helena Sofa: This transitional design is available as a sofa or settee and each comes with customizable options (cushion size, nailheads, fabrics). Designed for a variety of interiors, the slight curved arm and neat slipcover style skirt adds tailored softness

Seeking more curves? The Arabella Sofa features a modern take on a traditional camelback. The Elsa cues a modern twist on French salon styling with its reverse camelback. The Baldwin Sofa offers a front curve.

Arabella Sofa: The Arabella Sofa makes a bold and beautiful focal point in any room.

Transitional Curved Front SetteeBaldwin Sofa: Available as a full sofa or settee (shown here), this piece features a soft curved design and lower back. Choose your fabric and one of five nailhead trim designs for a casually sophisticated look. Pair it with a rounded table such as the Cyrano Coffee Table to take advantage of its curve.

Westley Sectional Sofa: Need lots of room for lounging? Gabby offers three sectional sofas for ultimate comfort. “The Westley wins me over because its so inviting and comfortable but has such great lines,” says Hillary. “Its gracefully swooping arm is the perfect height to lounge on and prop your arm on and its long kidney pillows help to add layers to a room and it fits into most styles.” For other options, check out the Abbott Sectional Sofa (you’ll love the tufted back) and skirted Layla Sectional Sofa.

Add Personal Flair:

Once you’ve selected your frame, design elements can be mixed and matched to make your investment one of a kind. “Upholstery has a lot of parts, for example: cushions, types of seams, leg style, arm style, and pillow size. Make sure you comb through each item’s specifics to really gives each item its personality. There really are endless possibilities,” says Hillary.

Leg Finishes:

Choose from Distressed Gray, Metropolitan, Natural, and Walnut. “On a couple of our more contemporary frames we actually also offer an acrylic leg options as well,” Hillary says.

Nailheads (or not):

Selections include Nickel, Antique Brass, Black Nickel,  Antique Nickel, , or Brass.

Cushions:

Gabby offers three different seat cushion options: standard, spring-down, and ultra plush. “Our standard core is a 1.8 high-density foam core wrapped in a 50/50 blend of high-resilient fiber and North American waterfowl feathers,” says Hillary. “Our back cushions use high resiliency fiber and are channeled to help them maintain their shape. All of our cushions, including the pillows are wrapped in a down-proof ticking to prevent feather migration.”

Fabric: “We have over 120 fabrics in our line as well as nine leathers for customers to choose from,” says Hillary. “And almost half of our business is COM (Customer’s own material).”

The frames use heavy gauge sinuous spring coils and coils are spaced close together to ensure durability while maintaining a comfortable sit.
