When a design-savvy family relocated to a new Nashville neighborhood, they called upon Natalie Hager, their longtime interior designer, to create a luminous space with weightless warmth.

Belle Meade Highlands, located about twenty minutes from Downtown Nashville, is a neighborhood filled with Southern charm. Cottages are nestled amongst new construction, creating a harmonious blend of old and new architecture. When Natalie Hager began work on this Brookfield Avenue home, the interiors felt dull and divided—hardly suitable for the new owners, a vivacious young family. One element the designer hoped to preserve: the French-inspired detailing. Yet with three children under age twelve, this active clan needed a careful balance of durable pieces that would suit their fashion-forward taste.
Hager has been a frequent client, sourcing both Gabby and Summer Classics lines for her prolific portfolio of design projects throughout Tennessee. After Hager saw the intricate crown moulding and coffered ceilings in her client’s new property, she decided that “southern traditional” style with a transitional twist would take the home to new heights. Natalie aimed to highlight the detailed architecture while pushing the boundaries of family-friendly decor. For many of the kitchen upgrades, Hager felt Gabby was the natural choice, and chose a beautiful selection of lighting fixtures and furniture to marry modern Southern sophistication with French flair.
The transformation is astounding. Once detached and dimly lit, the kitchen is now a luminous common area, smartly equipped with generous seating and upscale appliances. From afterschool snack time to adults-only dinner parties, the renovated kitchen suite is now suited for this dynamic family’s multi-faceted lifestyle.
Natalie’s favorite feature? The airy brightness her design has brought to the home. Hager skillfully selected lucite, crystal, and glass elements to catch the light. Each morning, sunshine from the floor-to-ceiling windows streams through translucent Penelope Dining Chairs, covering the breakfast nook in a brilliant glow. A delicate Corinna Chandelier hangs over the round dining table, filtering the light with its champagne shell inlay. In the kitchen, Hager chose symmetrical Margie Lanterns and tailored Winston Barstools for comfortable cook-side seating.
In preparation for holiday entertaining, Natalie added fresh eucalyptus, gold pillar candles, and a large copper tray for drinkware. Turquoise vases adorn the breakfast table; a thoughtful accessory choice that nods to bright holiday green while preserving a transitional palette.
Hager employs a similar seasonal strategy in her own home. The verdant hue of pine wreaths and cedar garland naturally “pop” against her mostly white and metallic decor. In the New Year, she hopes to complete her living room with a Gabby chandelier—a space she has purposely left bare, waiting for the perfect fixture with an antiqued finish to accompany her tone-on-tone furnishings.
